MARY MAXEY - Mary Elizabeth Hayes Maxey, age 81, of Ridgeland, MS, formerly of Columbus, MS, died April 24, 2010, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services will be Monday, April 26, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Billy Wayne Whatley officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Columbus. The visitation will be Sunday, April 25, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Maxey was born July 11, 1928 in Columbus, MS, to the late Clyde and Rachel Dickens Hayes, Sr. She was a former member of the Columbus Church of Christ and attended North Brandon Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maxey was preceded in death by her husband, John Olver Maxey. Survivors include a son, Robert Allen Maxey and his wife Mary of Brandon, MS, daughter, Edna Ruth Crownover and her husband Charles of Brandon, MS, brothers, Johnny Hayes of Crawford, MS, and Leon Hayes of Clinton, MS, sisters, Joyce Allen of McComb, MS, Sarah Richardson of Columbus, MS, Anne Sledge of Columbus, MS, and Pearl Mize of Amory, MS, grandchildren, David Maxey, Pamela Maxey, and Brandon Crownover, 2 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
