Frances Burnette Ayers, age 81, of Columbus, MS, passed away June 24, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, 2014, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Mrs. Ayers was born June 26, 1932, in Columbus, MS, to the late William Carlton and Lena Agnew Burnette. She was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School and attended MUW. Mrs. Ayers retired from MUW after 30 years and was a member of the Terra Firma Garden Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Historical Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ayers. Survivors include her daughter, Alice Ayers Byars of Columbus, MS, sons, Brent Ayers and his wife Donna of Columbus, MS, and Jim Ayers of Columbus, MS, sister, Marty Lucero and her husband Michael of San Antonio, TX, brother, Bill Burnette of Cambridge, MD, grandchildren, Jon Byars, Katie Byars Wimberly, Mara Lovick, Will Ayers, Heather Haney, and Ryan Haney, great grandchildren, Skylar Elkin, Coty Welch, Chelsey Haney, and Zoe Burnette Wimberly, and great great grandson, Asher Welch.
