Dorothy Fuqua Hughes, age 80, of Columbus, MS, passed away April 16, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Tim Lee officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Beersheba Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2013, one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Hughes was born March 7, 1933, in Columbus, MS, to the late A. J. and Velma Brown Fuqua. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus and Lowndes County and 1952 graduate of S. D. Lee High School. Mrs. Hughes worked at United Technologies for 13 years and was a member of Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Sudduth and Mildred Chinnis. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Lowell Hughes of Columbus, MS, daughters, Diane Gray and her husband David of Columbus, MS, Lynn Brown and her husband Tracy of Alpharetta, GA, and Clarice Petty and her husband Terry of Columbus, MS, sons, Thomas Hughes and his wife Mitzi of Columbus, MS, and Chuck Hughes and his wife Mary Ann of Montgomery, AL, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mike Gray, Preston Gray, Drew Hughes, Robby Robinson, Jim Hughes, Bo Edminston, Eric Nowell, and Chris Argyle. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Shackelford, Frank Garrard, Gary Beatty, Buddy Barksdale, Bill Wheeler, Leon Bell, W. L. Brown, nephews, and the men of Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to Beersheba Cumberland Presbyerian Church or the Beersheba Cemetery Fund, 1736 Beersheba Rd., Columbus, MS, 39702, or the donor's favorite charity.
