SHIRLEY MILLER - Edna Shirley Steward Miller, age 74, of Columbus, MS died July 21, 2009 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Father James F. Carlyle officiating and Gunter & Peel Funeral Home directing. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will also be Thursday, July 23, 2009 in the Earline Robertson Room of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Miller was born November 7, 1934 in Independence, MS to the late Conway and Pauline Darnell Steward. She was a graduate of Independence High School, Northwest Mississippi Community College, and the University of Mississippi, where she received her BA and MA degrees in education. Mrs. Miller moved to Columbus in 1967 where she was a teacher and guidance counselor at Heritage Academy for 35 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Teachers Sorority of Memphis, TN, Mississippi Private School Association, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Episcopal Church Women. She served on the Home Visitation and Food Ministry Committee and enjoyed serving as Sunday School Teacher, Children's Chapel, and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Lem Hastings Miller, and sister, Connie Steward Stephens. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Debra Miller of Columbus, daughter and son-in-law, Mindy Miller and Michael Wolfe of Starkville, MS, sister, Sandra Trainum of Indpendence, MS, grandchildren, Robert Miller, Avery Miller, Grant Wolfe, and William Wolfe, step grandson, Raymond Cyr, nephew, Lance (Amy) Dandridge of Southaven, MS, and neice, Candace (Kenny) Laughter of Senatobia, MS. Pallbearers will be Wesley Wolfe, Don Strickland, Taylor Smith, Bobby Harper, Terry Freeze, Raymond Cyr, Douglas Doster, John Stanback, Robert Miller, Avery Miller, Grant Wolfe, and William Wolfe.
