M. D. Sudduth, Jr., age 82, of Columbus, MS, passed away December 16, 2011, at Homeplace of Columbus. Funeral services will be Monday, December 19, 2011, at 11:00 AM at New Covenant Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Mordecai officiating and Rev. Andy Vaughn assisting. The interment will immediately follow at Piney Grove Cemetery in Steens, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, December 18, 2011, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Mr. Sudduth was born June 2, 1929, in Millport, AL, to the late Mose D. and Allene Dilliard Sudduth, Jr. He was a veteran of Korea serving in the United States Army. Mr. Sudduth worked for a number of years at Airline Manufacturing and retired from Omnova. He was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Lewis Sudduth and sister, Annie Kate Sudduth Harris Thompson. Survivors include nephews, Bill Harris and his wife Betty of Steens, MS, Jimmy Dale Harris of Columbus, MS, and Lamar Harris and his wife Debbie of Columbus, MS, nieces, Jackie Harris and Alene Keeton, both of Columbus, MS, brothers-in-law, Frank Lewis and his wife Kathy of Harrison, TN, and Fred Lewis and his wife Mimi of Houston, TX, and sister-in-law, Linda Lewis of Richland, MS. Pallbearers will be Curtis Younger, Lee Younger, Tom Green, Hayes Rector, Stan Rector, Buddy Thrasher, and Bill Heywood.
