William B. (Billy) Webb William B. (Billy) Webb, a life-long resident of Lowndes County, departed this life on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the age of 95. He was the son of the late Frank B. (Lute) Webb and Regina B. Webb. Mr. Webb was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ruth H. Webb, and is survived by his brother, John D. Webb (Peggy), two sons, Tommy Webb (Deanna) of Millport, Alabama, and Frank Webb, five grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Webb was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School and attended Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy in the Pacific theater. After the war, Mr. Webb returned to Columbus and was employed with the Columbus and Greenville Railroad, where he retired as Secretary-Treasurer. He served for over ten years on the board of Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center, including a term as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Webb also served on the Board of Palmer Home for Children and as Treasurer of the Home. He was a life-long member of Main Street Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus. Mr. Webb was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing throughout his life. Those who hunted with him knew he was among the best marksmen in Lowndes County. We all will miss him dearly, but rejoice that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, family members gone before him, and most importantly with his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at Main Street Presbyterian Church, with visitation at the Church at 2:00 and the funeral service to follow at 3:00 Thursday afternoon. Interment will follow at Bersheba Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Richard Fleming, Charles R. Berry, Bill Brigham, Richard Laws, Duane Webb, and Matthew Webb. Funeral arrangements will be provided by Gunter and Peel Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to Main Street Presbyterian Church or Palmer Home for Children.
