Kay Gunter Brewer Loving mother and wife passed away on December 23, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi- Oxford, MS. Born July 14,1937 in Columbus, MS. Kay is survived by her husband of 51 years Billy Brewer, of Oxford, MS. Her two sons Brett Brewer of Memphis, TN and Gunter Brewer of Stillwater, OK. Daughter-in-laws Susan and Rhonda Brewer. Grandchildren Keaton, Blaine, Lauren, Bailey, and Brogan Brewer. Brother, Henry Tom Gunter of Reno, NV. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Rosa Katherine (Roke) Gunter. Kay graduated from SD Lee High School in Columbus, MS in 1955. She attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS- graduating with a Masters Degree in English. She taught English and Speech for many years at both high school and collegiate levels. Shortly after college graduation, Kay performed as an actress at Summerstock in Colorado Springs, CO. One of her cast members included Academy Award Winner, Dustin Hoffman. She was a longtime member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, as well as the 1st Methodist Church of Columbus, MS. Kay was very involved in charitable activities, serving as an officer with the Junior Auxiliary in Columbus, MS. As well as other organizations in Hammond, LA, Ruston, LA, and Oxford, MS. Kays hobbies included playing bridge, gardening, and being an avid football fan. She loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. Kay was honored by the Memphis Chapter of the Football Hall of Fame for her years of Dedication as a college football wife. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Palmer Home, Columbus, MS. The services will be held at Gunter Peel Funeral Home in Columbus.
