Proverbs 31:10 Sarah Chappell Andrews Younger, 91, went to her Heavenly Home from her earthly home in Columbus on August 31, 2014. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Gunter and Peel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until commencement of the service. The Reverend Paul McDonald will officiate. Sarah was born September 4, 1922 in Lowndes County to the late Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Molloy Andrews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lewis Younger, Jr. and by all nine of her siblings, including her brothers Vardaman Andrews, Ira Andrews, Max Andrews, Jimmie Andrews and Edwin Andrews and her sisters Ruby Andrews Wright, Loucille Andrews Foster, Estelle Andrews Ellington and Avonelle Andrews. She is survived by her sons Ken (Linda) Younger and Jerry Younger, both of Memphis, and John (Jessica) Younger of Jackson, MS; grandsons Lewis Grant Younger of Columbus, Alex Younger of Olive Branch, and Jay Younger of Memphis; granddaughters Becky Younger and Martha Hope Younger Imes Clark, both of Columbus, great grandsons Frank Baker Imes, Jr. and John Davis Clark of Columbus, brother-in-law Robert Ellington of Brandon, sister-in-law Wylodine Andrews of Columbus, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her long-time friend Lucy Williams of Columbus. Sarah was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, formerly Central United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Wallace Roberts Sunday School Class and Circle #2 of United Methodist Women at Central. She taught in the children's department of Sunday school and in the Co-Workers' class for many years. She also served as a Trustee of Mt. Pleasant Church in Caledonia, MS. She was a graduate of New Hope High School and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW). She received her Master's of Education degree from Mississippi State University and her AAA Education Specialist degree from MSCW. She began her 28 1/2 year teaching career at Steens Elementery Scool and later taught in the Columbus school system at Brandon and Fairview Elementary Schools and Heritage Academy. She retired from Mississippi University for Women after teaching for 17 years at the Demonstration School. As a teacher she felt priviledged to be an extraordinary influence on her many students over the years. She was a member of Kappa Delta Epsilon, Pi Gamma Mu, and Phi Kappa Phi honorary societies. She was a charter member of the Beta Conclave of Kappa Kappa Iota, a member of the Mississippi Professional Educators, Peyton Study Club, Columbus-Lowndes Genealogical Society and the Shuk-Ho-Ta Tom-A-Ha Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her late husband were members of the Winnebago International Travelers (WIT) Club and the Tenn-Tom Bagos Travel Club. Memorials may be made to Mt. Box 1307, Columbus, MS 39703; the Columbus-Lowndes Genealogical Society, 314 North 7th Street, Columbus, MS 39701 or a charity of your choice. Pallbearers will be Ira Andrews, Don Davis, Curry Freeman, Chuck Younger, Greg Andrews, Dow Phillips, Christian Heinkel, Ted Younger, Mike Andrews and Curtis Younger. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie and Mary Beth Walden, John and Dolores Kenney, Dr. Marty and Mary Webber, Frank Imes, Rick Hux, Brent Henderson, Susan Hunt, Tony Kizer, surviving members of the Wallace Roberts Sunday School Class, her "girls" from her church that faithfully visited her over the last few years and all of her former students.
