Juliaette Wise Sharp, age 74, of Columbus, MS, passed away September 29, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be Friday, October 3, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with the Rev. Anne Harris officiating and the Rev. Raigan Miskelley assisting. Visitation with the family and a celebration of life will be held immediately following the service at Altmyer Acres. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Juliaette was born April 5, 1940, to the late Louis and Lelia Belle McIlwain Wise. She was a graduate of Lee High School and received her BS degree from Mississippi University for Women (MUW). She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, having served in many capacities over the years. She was President of the Women of the Church, a member of the Altar Guild, Sunday School teacher, organizer and first chairperson of the Meal Ministry Program, long time chairman of the Chicken Salad Committee for the 8 O'May luncheon, coordinator of the first pictorial church directory, and co-chairperson of the 1980 statewide Episcopal Diocesan Council meeting. She was a life member of the Junior Auxiliary (JA) of Columbus, having served as President in 1976. She was instrumental in founding Reach-Out Child Abuse Shelter, forming the Christmas Clearing House, and bringing the New Orleans Symphony to perform for the Columbus School children. Mrs. Sharp served on the President's Advisory Board for Dr. James Strobel and assisted in the organization of and served as the first president of the Lowndes County MUW Alumnae Association. She also served as a director of the boards of The House of Hope, the Lowndes County Red Cross, the Lowndes County Cancer Fund, the Easter Seals Society and Camp Rising Sun. She served on the board of directors of Heritage Academy, was instrumental in forming a band in the 1980's and also served as a co-editor of A Grand Heritage cookbook. Juliaette also served on the board and as president for the Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society (CLHS) for many years. Because of her dedication, determination and under her leadership, the new CLHS facility finally became a reality in 2013. Juliaette was a charter member and president of the Krewe of Didelphidae and a former member of Northwood Garden Club. Mrs. Sharp is survived by her husband, Howard L. Sharp, Jr., daughter, Lelia "Lea" Evelyn Sharp of Memphis, TN, son Louis Howard Sharp and his wife Amy of Columbus, MS, and granddaughters Lores, Lucy, and Laura Lee of Columbus, MS. Honorary pallbearers will be Col. Thomas McCann, John McCann, Tom Wolford, III, Bob Wolford, Penn Wilder, Web Gholson, Keith Saverly, Russell Freeman, and Dale Fulton.
