Milton Marion "Pat" Shackelford, age 88, of Columbus, MS, passed away October 28, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, October 31, 2014, at 2:30 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 31, 2014, from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Shackelford was born March 21, 1926, in Belzoni, MS, to the late John Albert and Hortense Cosper Shackelford. He was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School and attended the University of Mississippi. Mr. Shackelford was a retired Lt. Col. from the United States Army and veteran of Korea. He worked for a number of years as City Tax Collector and also was office manager for Threadgill, Smith, Sanders, and Jolly. Mr. Shackelford was a member of First Baptist Church and past president of the local Gideons International. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Shackelford, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Barbara King Shackelford of Columbus, MS, sons, John M. Shackelford and his wife Lisa of Germantown, TN, and David Shackelford of Columbus, MS, daughter, Cindy Stacy and her husband Randy of Columbus, MS, daughter-in-law, Sherry Hudson of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Leah Shackelford, John M. Shackelford, Jr., Laura Shackelford, John Tyler Stacy, Layna Shackelford, Spencer Lee Stacy, Christopher Reese Shackelford, and John Logan Shackelford, great granddaughter, Mary Blythe Condon, nephew, Giles Shackelford, and nieces Judy Kumple and Gayle Miller. Pallbearers will be John M. Shackelford, Jr., John Tyler Stacy, Spencer Lee Stacy, Christopher Reese Shackelford, John Logan Shackelford and Giles Shackelford. Honorary pallbearers will be Ike Savelle, Tom Yeatman, Wendy Swedenburg, members of the Lee High School Class of 1944, members of the local Gideons International, charter members of the Layabouts, and members of the Old Geezers. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 829, Columbus, MS, 39703.
