Robert S. "Bobby" Brewer, age 89, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Noland Hospital, Tuscaloosa, AL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gunter& Peel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, December 19, 2014 at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Dr. Albert Wilkerson will officiate. Interment will immediately follow in Rowan Cemetery. The son of the late Homer L and Sadie Smith Brewer, Mr. Brewer was born October 7, 1925 in Columbus. He attended Stephen D. Senior High School. He was a veteran, serving his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He married Christine Crowe in 1946, and they became members of East End Baptist Church in 1947. He was a life Deacon at East End and was honored with the title of Deacon Emeritus. He was a carpenter by trade, first working for D. S. McClanahan and Sons and later for Harry Terrell Construction Company and then being self-employed for many years. He retired after 47 years, but he continued his love of wood-working, making swings and birdhouses out of cedar. He was a big fan of Ole Miss Football and spent much of his leisure time fishing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Robert Michael Brewer. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Christine Crowe Brewer of Columbus, MS, his daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Bill Davis of Caledonia, MS , his brothers and sister-in-law Dick and Katherine Brewer of Pulaski, TN and Billy Brewer of Oxford, MS, his grandson Troy Davis of Ethelsville, AL , his granddaughter Cassidi Nickles (Jason) and great-grandson Rushton Nickles, all of Columbus. Pallbearers will be Jerry Crowe, Woody Crowe, John Hillhouse, C. A. Dodson, Jim Long and Charlie Upton. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Smith, James Pope, Floyd Land, Bill Fendley, Jim Hood, Dr.Jack Reed, the Deacons of East End Baptist Church and the Bible Book Class.
