Helen Jane Dawson Fry, 94, of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Transitional Care Unit, GT, Columbus, MS. Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS at 4:00 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2014 with Reverend Diane Lemmon officiating, assisted by Reverend Curtis Bray. Visitation will be at the church at 2:30 pm, prior to the service. Mrs. Fry was born in Michigan City, IN on December 1, 1920 to the late Floyd Carl and Blanche Hileman Dawson. She graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City. She and Darrol Wayne Fry were married November 1, 1941 at Coalbush Church in Mishawaka, IN. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and retired from Mississippi University for Women where she worked as a secretary. After moving to Columbus from Mishawaka, IN in 1958, she served on various committees and boards at Wesley Church, including the Building Committee and United Methodist Women. She served on the Board of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library for many years and served on its Building Committee, as well. She was a member of several social and civic groups such as: Milady Dinner Club, a garden club, a weekly coffee group, Eastern Star (Mishawaka, IN), the Flying Squares square dance group, Contact Crisis Ministry, and other community organizations. After her retirement, she became an accomplished potter taking classes at the "W" and enjoying gardening, flower arranging, and time spent with her friends and family. Wesley Church always remained a central part of her life, where she continued to give freely of her time and talents.In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Doris Robinson (Harold) and Alice Radomski (Paul). Survivors include her husband, Darrol, daughters Mary Jane Piazza (John) and Lynn Striepe (Denis), son John Dawson Fry (Elizabeth), grandchildren Elizabeth Wright (Robert), David Striepe (Rebecca), John Piazza III (Allyson), Jennifer Flajser (Austin), Austin Fry, Taylor Jane Fry, Jacquelyn Fry and great grandchildren Logan Wright, Jackson Wright, Aila Piazza, Gwenyth Piazza, John Crawford Flajser, and Darrol Henry Striepeall of whom honor her and celebrate a life well-lived and well-loved.
