Doris Stennis Bearden, age 95, of Columbus, MS, passed away January 10, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Lemmon officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bearden was born July 20, 1919, in Newton, MS, to the late Dudley and Lula Hannah Stennis. She was a graduate of Newton High School and Mississippi University for Women. Mrs. Bearden was a retired teacher having taught at Stokes Beard, Fairview, and Heritage Academy. She was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing bridge. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bearden was preceded in death by her husband,Judge William Ellis Bearden, Jr., son, William Ellis Bearden, III, and four sisters. Survivors include her sons, James Dudley Bearden and his wife Marlies of West Point, MS, Thomas Bearden and his wife Liat of Hilo, HI, and Scott Tucker Bearden and his wife Cheryl of Gainsville, FL, and grandchildren, Matthew Bearden, Amanda Bearden, Isaac London, Ryan Bearden, Laura Bearden, and Rosemary Bearden. Pallbearers will be Dr. Robin Compassi, Ken Hargett, Matthew Bearden, Isaac London, Dudley Bearden, Thomas Bearden, and Scott Bearden. Memorials may be made to the Palmer Home for Children, P.O.
