William Arthur "Bop" Bandy, age 87, of Columbus, MS, passed away January 13, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be Friday, January 16, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Pastor Martin Andrews officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Bandy was born November 10, 1927, in Columbus, MS, to the late S. R. "Pete" and Ruth Beard Bandy. He was a lifelong resident of Columbus and attended Barrow and Demonstration Schools before graduating from Lee High School in 1945 where he was a member of the T.K.O. Club. Mr. Bandy received his Bachelors Degree from Delta State University and was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy. He was a sales representative for Liggett Myers Tobacco Company before going to and retiring from the United States Post Office. Mr. Bandy enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of Halbert's Fishing Club and Land of Lakes of Brooksville, MS. He was a Methodist and in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his brother, Roscoe Bandy, sister-in-law, Lois Bandy, and nephew, William O. Bandy. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth West Bandy of Columbus, MS, daughters, Beth Williamson and her husband Jerry of Caledonia, MS, and Brenda Stone and her husband Richard of Birmingham, AL, grandchildren, Jaicee Williamson and Jayjay Williamson of Caledonia, MS, nieces Rosemary Hill and her husband Tommy of Columbus, MS, and Ruth Basinger and her husband Dave of Columbus, MS, nephew, Roscoe Bandy, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Philadelphia, MS, and a number of great nieces and nephews. My Bandy is also survived by special friends, Jean Armistead, Johnny Clemmons, Annette Jones, Darlene Jones, Emma Danner, and Autumn Wright. Pallbearers will be Jerry Williamson, Richard Stone, Tommy Hill, Heath Hill, Johnny Clemmons, and Dave Basinger. Honorary pallbearers will be retirees from the United States Post Office.
