Thelma Turnipseed

February 4, 1919 — January 25, 2015

Thelma Turnipseed, 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2015 at her home near her daughter in Decatur, Georgia. Thelma was born in McCool, Mississippi, on February 4, 1919, the youngest of seven children of Homer Hunt and Perla Whitmire Hunt. Thelma married Mike Turnipseed, her high school sweetheart at the end of World War II. She happily followed Mike around the world for the remainder of his Naval career, living in Virginia, California, Spain and New Orleans before retiring to Columbus, Mississippi in 1971. Thelma and Mike built a house on a small farm and spent nearly 40 happy years gardening, playing bridge and enjoying family and friends. Thelma had a joy for life and made friends wherever she went. She was a loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She is proceeded in death by Mike Turnipseed, her beloved husband of 64 years. She is survived by her daughter Ann Turnipseed of Decatur, Georgia and her grandson Nicholas Andrew Bermudez of Miami, Florida. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 11am at Gunter Peel Funeral Home in Columbus, Mississippi. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Mike, at 2:30 pm at Salem United Methodist Church in McCool, Mississippi.
