Steve Heinz, 57, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at BMHGT in Columbus, MS. Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home with visitation from 4:006:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with longtime friend Randy Rigdon officiating. Steven Michael Heinz was born July 10, 1957 in Vancouver, WA to Leonard and Suzanne Heinz.Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, which eventually brought him to Columbus Air Force Base. After being discharged from service, he settled in Columbus and in 1983 bought Ruben's Fish House which he owned and operated until 2006. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, ColumbusLowndes Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors), Columbus Restaurant Ass'n (President 5 years), Mississippi Restaurant Ass'n (Board of Directors) who voted him Restauranteur of the Year two consecutive years, National Restaurant Ass'n and Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau (President 2 years). Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman and supported several organizations committed to the preservation of wildlife. After an extended visit to his hometown of Vancouver, WA, Steve returned to Columbus and purchased Cattleman's Steak & Fish, which he operated until his death. Steve is survived by two sons: Brian Steven Heinz (Caledonia, MS) and Colby Michael Heinz (Columbus, MS); stepdaughter Amy Rebecca Wages (Charlotte, NC); his sisters Cathy Kuter (Battle Ground, WA), Janet Neufeld (Vancouver, WA), Donna Ewbank (Laguna Woods, CA) and several neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Heinz and Suzanne Dague Heinz and his sister Lori Wolf.
