Ruby Nell Mattox Hydrick, age 84, of Lavon, TX, entered Heaven's Gates on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel. Graveside services will be private. Mrs. Hydrick was born December 6, 1930, in Fulton, MS, to the late Farris Gordon and Zora Ula Nichols Mattox. She was a devoted wife, homemaker and an excellent cook. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends and entertaining. She also enjoyed playing dominos, card games and watching game shows. She spent many years living overseas. Mrs. Hydrick was a woman of faith and before her illness she was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Clermont, FL. As her illness progressed, she was still able to recall many of her favorite hymns. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hydrick was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hydrick, sisters, Oleta Mae Bowen, Irene N. Strong, and brothers, Fred Gordon Mattox and Gerald Ray Mattox. Survivors include her son, Joel R. Hydrick and his wife Danette and their daughters, Dalaney and Emily Hydrick, stepson, John T. Hydrick and his wife Sylvia and their children Taylor and Tiffany Hydrick, 3 great grandchildren, sister, Carol Earlene Wilkins, and many nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hydrick, Taylor Hydrick, Ron DeJarnette, Sr., and Michael Richardson. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
