John "Howard" Odom, age 75, was called home by his Lord and Savior, February 19, 2015. He passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family. A long time resident of Columbus, MS, he was currently living in the Longview Community of Starkville, MS where he was born, November 1, 1939. A hard working man all of his life, Howard was the retired owner/operator of Odom Trucking and had worked many years with Yates Construction Company. Howard is survived by one sister, Shirley Underwood of Columbus, MS; one son, John "Johnny' Odom and wife Karol of Ackerman, MS; four daughters, Leona Buchanan of Starkville , MS, Marilyn Foley and her husband Paul of Ocean Springs, MS, Melinda Whitehurst and her husband Ed of Maben, MS and Crystal Odom Scott of Starkville, MS, as well as 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Morris Eugene Odom and Annie Laura Trice Odom, one brother, James Hayward Odom and one sister, Patricia "Pat" Odom. A private family Memorial will be held at Craig Springs Cemetery in Sturgis, MS. In memory of Howard, the family has asked that, in place of flowers, donations be made to the Craig Springs Cemetery c/o Ronnie Massey 662-418-7404.
