ED PHILLIPS Edward (Ed) Louis Phillips, age 80, passed away on February 28, 2015. Ed was born in LeRoy, Illinois on December 27, 1934 and was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jo Francis (Bud) and Helen McDonough Phillips. As a young boy, Ed moved with his parents and his sisters to Artesia, Mississippi where the family continued their long tradition in farming. Ed and his father ("Daddy‐Bud") were early pioneers in no‐till soil conservation farming and the practice of double cropping wheat and soybeans in the Black Belt Prairie of Mississippi. An avid hunter and renowned local chef, Ed loved his family and his dogs, enjoyed a drink with friends, and believed that his seasoning and barbeque sauce could solve the problems of the world. Until his death, God rewarded Ed's devout Catholic faith by allowing Ed to continue to hunt and to enjoy the camaraderie of his many friends. As said by his friend, Desmond McGrath, "Ed's passion for cooking, discussing politics, and traditional Catholicism were aptly seasoned and stirred into the melting pot of life via the storied evening cookouts at Ed's Old West Point Road homestead." As with those who passed before him, Ed's life and adventures will be lovingly remembered when we gather around the campfire. Ed is survived by his immediate family and their spouses, George and his wife Nicole, Joseph (Joey), Leigh Allison, Jennifer and her husband Jeff Thompson, Edward and his wife Marie, Elberta Phillips, Judith Phillips, and his granddaughters Lizzy and Isabelle. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Bond, her five children, Violet, Susan, Angela, Paul, Christie, and their families; his sister Jean, her husband Bill Frumkin, their two children Jeff and Karen Lynn, and their families; and his sister, Joan Demeranville, her two children Helen and Bob, and their families. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 716 2nd Avenue North, in Columbus. On Thursday, March 5th, The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home chapel followed by a Requiem High Funeral Mass offered by Father Michael Oswalt at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Memorial Funeral Home.
