Walton Pannell, age 88, died peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2015 at his home in Columbus, surrounded by his family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The son of the late Rufus and Etta Parish Pannell, Mr. Pannell was born May 18, 1926 in Oneonta, AL. He was the owner of Columbus Tomato Company for 50 years , from which he retired . In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Larry E. Pannell. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Eloise Hill Pannell, his sons and daughter-in-law Jimmy and Nina Pannell, and Lymon Pannell and his daughters Carolyn Vandiver and Janet Usher, all of Columbus, his brother Denton Pannell of Oneonta, AL, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Walt Pannell, Jacob Pannell, Blake Brown, Greg Hill, Bobby Hill, Dustin David, Keith Bain and Jim Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Gann, Robert Smith, John Allred, Everett Tidwell, Buddy Easley, Bill Canon, Bobby Gale, Jimmy Wilder, "Hoot" West, Jim Hoops, Herbert Eads, Gene Reed, Jimmy Busby, Jess Prescott, Mike Perkerson, Steve Andrews, Ed Prescott, Joe Ross, Butch Howard, Jeff Hoops and Dan Taylor.
