Robert Tate Marsh, 67, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Ms. Services will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus, Ms with Bro. Terry Edwards officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive visitors preceding the service from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Marsh was born in Birmingham, Al on October 21, 1947 to the late Eugene "Doone" Sanders Marsh Jr. and Julia Ware Marsh. Tate attended Greensboro High School West in Greensboro, Al where he was a three sport letterman. After high school he played football at Marion Military Institute (Marion, Al). While at Marion he was a JC Gridwire All American. He then went on to play at Mississippi State University and for the Dallas Cowboys. When his playing career was cut short due to knee injuries he took to the field as a coach in 1972. During his 43 year teaching and coaching tenure in Scooba, Ms; Dade City, Fl; Mobile, Al; New Hope and Columbus, Ms he received a coach of the year award and won three state championships. His most recent coaching position was Heritage Academy in Columbus, Ms. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Guyton Marsh and nephew Christopher Marsh. Tate is survived by his mother-Julia Ware Marsh of Greensboro, Al; his daughter-Erin Tate Marsh Beall (David) of Saltillo, Ms; three granddaughters- Callahan, Sanders< and Audrey Beall of Saltillo; his companion- Norlene Wolford of Columbus, Ms; his brother- Mike Marsh of Demopolis, Al; his sister Gena Marsh Baltezegar (Charlie) of Jacksonville, Fl and three nieces. Honorary pallbearers are Barrett Donahoe, Bruce Branch, Ryan Deer, Henry Pilkington, Ed Lott, Toby Lott, Mickey Allen, and Bobby Garner.
