Sam Robinson

July 4, 1940 — July 10, 2015

Sam Robinson of Columbus, MS, passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle on July 10, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 4, 1940, in Tupelo, MS, to Roy Fray Robinson and Flo Earline Lee. Sam received a BA in economics and graduated with a master's degree in Urban Planning in 1966 from The University of Mississippi. After working for many years as a city planner, he opened his first company, American Insulation. This evolved into Environmental Evaluation Control, a contracting consulting company in which he and his son, Ron, were partners. His love for music began at an early age in Fulton, MS playing the piano, guitar, trumpet, drums, and keyboard. He could play any instrument handed to him. As he grew older his passion was the Steel Guitar. He attended the Steel Guitar Convention in Dallas, TX for many years. He was an avid tennis player at the Magnolia Tennis Club. Because he was always late for his tennis matches, and would show up suddenly, he was known as "Sudden Sam". He loved riding the open roads on his Harley and and eating lunch with his "Lunch Bunch" for the past 20 plus years. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Flo Robinson. He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Robinson of Fort Worth, TX, son, Ron Robinson and his wife Beth of Caledonia, MS, and long time companion, Becky Johnston. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home. Visitation will be at from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at Itawamba Memorial Gardens in Fulton, MS at 1:30 PM. Pall Bearers will be Bill Gavin, Bill Harlow, FE Smith, Russell Street, Guy Villeneue, and Doug Wheeler. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Larry Lee Davis, James A Davis, Louie Lee Bigham and Delbert McMillan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746 Columbus, Ms 39703, or the charity of your choice.
