Larry W. McKellar, 68, of Tarpon Springs, FL, passed away on August 18, 2015. He was born in Columbus MS, the third child of Carl and Mary Alice Wingfield McKellar. He graduated from S. D. Lee High School in 1965 and then entered the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado, where he graduated in 1969. He received pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base and was later stationed in Southern California, where he flew KC135 aircraft on transport missions all over the world, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During active duty, he was part of an airlift operation into Israel, bringing aid during the 1973 Arab-Israeli conflict. After retirement from active duty, he began a career of more than 25 years with American Airlines, eventually moving to Tarpon Springs. Over his career as a pilot, he was promoted to captain and flew international routes to Europe and South America. He also served as Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer for the Air Force Reserves and FEMA. He returned to active duty in 1990, flying transport missions into Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. After retirement, he became active in his church, All Saints Episcopal, where he served on the vestry and was called to take over the operation of Grace Chapel, a day shelter offering essential services to the homeless and needy. He is survived by his wife, Annalisa B. McKellar, a sister, Marcie McKellar of Columbus and two brothers, Carl McKellar of Hendersonville TN and Frank McKellar of Madison MS. A memorial service, with Rev. Anne Harris, celebrant, will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus.
