James Daniel Sisson

September 20, 1930 — October 17, 2015

Lt. Col. Ret. James Daniel "Dan" Sisson, age 85, of Columbus, MS, passed away October 17, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be Monday, October 19, 2015, at 1:00 PM at the chapel of Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Robert Dore officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at Annunciation Catholic Church. His cremains will be interred in the Columbarium at First United Methodist Church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sisson was born September 20, 1930, in Belden, MS, to the late Thurman and Ethel Reifers Sisson. He was a graduate of Lee High School and Mississippi State University. Mr. Sisson retired as an independent insurance agent and also retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church where he served as co-chairman of the Church Building Committee. Mr. Sisson also served on the board of St. Mary's Catholic School and was past presidenct of the Columbus Civitan Club. Survivors include his wife, Sissie Sisson of Columbus, MS, son, James Lewis "Jim" Sisson and his wife Beth of Starkville, MS, daughters, Dana Mosby and her husband Clifford of Prarieville, LA, Renee Cooney and her husband Walter of Cypress, TX, Catherine Sisson and her husband Rich Brunner of Cary, NC, and Michelle Heredia and her huband Kenny of Columbus, MS, brother, David T. Sisson and his wife Shirley of Laurel, MS, and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Annunciation Catholic School, 223 North Browder St., Columbus, MS, 39702.
