Bessie Virginia Worbington Shaw, age 85, of Columbus, MS, passed away October 18, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, October 23, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Shaeffer's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Bray officiating. The interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Shaw was born September 25, 1930, in Benoit, MS, to the late Jim and Bessie Phillips Worbington. She and her husband, Arthur Shaw, worked at Fairview Lanes of Columbus from 1959 - 1965. They owned and operated Yazoo City Lanes, Vicksburg Lanes, and Shaw's Lanes of Greenville, MS. Mrs. Shaw moved to Columbus 21 years ago and was a member of Shaeffer's Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Jim and Ida Smith Shaw, 2 great great grandsons, 9 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include her huband, Arthur Shaw, Jr. of Columbus, MS, daughters, Doris Howard and her husband Jimmy of Columbus, MS, Kathy Spencer and her husband Pat of Delta, LA, and Deborah Flora and her husband Tony of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Terry Elliott and his wife Pam, John Howard, Bryant Howard, Patrick Spencer and his wife Misty, Steven Spencer, Shelley Cresswell Thomas, and Jamey Cresswell and his wife Amy, 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Shaeffer's Chapel United Methodist Church, Diana Granger, Jennifer Lindsey, and Tia Anthony.
