Mary Ellen Green Atkins, age 89, of Columbus, MS, passed away October 22, 2015, at Aurora Health & Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be Monday, October 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Kenny Gardner officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Atkins was born July 8, 1926 in Elrod, AL, to the late Ruben and Dora Strickland Green. She enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Atkins also volunteered through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program with Meals On Wheels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Atkins, and son, Chester Atkins. Survivors include her daughter, Ginger Clark and her husband Donald of Gresham, OR, grandchildren, James Clark, Jamie Corso, Andrew Atkins, and Adam Atkins, and 11 great grandchildren.
