Opal Lee Williamson McCaleb passed away at her home on Saturday October 24, 2015 at the age of 100 surrounded by people who loved her. Opal was born October 31, 1914 in Bankston, Alabama to Sylvester and Vere Williamson. She married Parker Tolbert McCaleb in 1937 in Columbus, Mississippi. He preceded Opal in death in 1982. Opal was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Parker McCaleb, and one grandson, Ryan McCaleb. Survivors include one son, Kermit McCaleb (Jackie) of Mobile, Alabama, one daughter-in-law, Pat McCaleb of Germantown, Tennessee, one sister, Willie Hise of Loxely, Alabama, one sister-in-law, Frances Williamson of Daphne, Alabama, 7 grandchildren, Teri Harmon, Kimberly McCaleb, Faith Durham, Lee McCaleb, Stuart McCaleb, Michelle Gagnon, and Dana Skarra, 14 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Opal was a mother and homemaker, and she helped her husband with their cattle farm in Columbus, Mississippi in the prairie area. She was a member of the Ladies Garden Club, several bridge clubs, and the Pot Luck Group, along with being active in her sons' school activities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus, Mississippi for over forty years. After moving to Mobile, Alabama in 1993, she became a member of Woodridge Baptist Church and remained a member there until her death. The family would like to thank her personal caregivers, Pam Miller, Chelsea Mosley, Brenda Mosley, and Denise Stickman and all of the nurses at Springhill Home Health and Hospice for their outstanding care of Opal. Services will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church on Tuesday October 27 with Dr. Mack Morris officiating. Visitation is 9:00-11:00 AM with funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Woodridge Baptist Church Building Fund.
