Elizabeth "Libby" Brown Springer, age 62, of Columbus, MS, beloved teacher and mother, died at home October 31, 2015, after a lengthy battle with uterine cancer. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, November 2, 2015, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Main Street Presbyterian Church with Rev. Todd Matocha officiating. The interment will be Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 1:00 PM at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS. Libby was born March 4, 1953, in Brookhaven, MS. She was educated in the Brookhaven Public Schools before entering Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. After receiveing an Associate of Arts Degree from Co-Lin, she attended Mississippi State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to earn a Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama. A lifeling educator, Libby taught elementary school for a total of 36 years. She began her career in Alabama, teaching in Pickens and Fayette counties. After moving to Columbus, she served as the Director at Main Street Christian School (formerly The Presbyterian Preschool) for 5 years. The remainder of her teaching career was at Heritage Academy, where she taught for 21 years. Even after her retirement in 2014, Libby held a genuine love for education, the children she taught and the many talented professionals with whom she worked. Libby was a member of Main Street Presbyterian Church and a Life Member of Columbus Junior Auxiliary. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Delta Pi, both honoraries for educators. Libby was also a member of the local chapter of PEO. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Frank Springer and father Samuel Warren Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Springer, mother, Imogene "Jean" Eubanks Brown, and sister, Vicki Brown Hollingsworth. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Brewer, David Gatewood, Nick Hairston, Bill Laws, Perry Lucas, and Billy Swedenburg. Memorials may be made to Main Street Presbyterian Church, P.O.
