JAMES E. POPE James Earl Pope, age 69, died Monday, November 02, 2015 at his residence in Columbus. Services will be held Wednesday, November 04, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Edward Knox, Dr. Albert Wilkerson, and Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Egger Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Pope was born on Monday, September 23, 1946 in Kinston, NC to Nancy Pope Miller and the late James Melvin Pope. He moved to Columbus in 1990 as Plant Manager of Artex International Dying and Wet Processing Plant in West Point, MS. After retiring from Textile management, Mr. Pope obtained his Mississippi Real Estate License in 2000 and started Pope Real Estate and Development Company, and was co-owner of Southern Family and Associates Realty, Inc. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. Mr. Pope was a member of East End Baptist Church. He was passionate about the Lord and loved to tell people about his savior. James was a dedicated, faithful servant. What a gift his faith was, and continues to be, to his family and friends. Over the years he had numerous ministries including one at a local factory as well as a nursing home where he brought a message weekly. He was an Evangelist, a Preacher, a Sunday School Teacher, and a past member of the Gideons International. His mission in life was to tell everyone he met about the saving grace of His Lord and Savior. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and being on the water. In addition to this mother he is survived by his wife Barbara Taylor Pope, daughter; Tammy Tyndall (Bobby), Son; John Taylor (Jamie), Sister-in-law Rita Foley, brother-in-law Leon Foley, and grandchildren; Jordan and Joshua Taylor Serving as pallbearers will be Clayton Walker, Terry Bouchard, Bob Caruthers, Mel Sharpe, Mike Aldridge, and Bobby Alexander. Serving as honorary pallbearers will beBurl Wood, Floyd Land, Elbert Lawrence, Jimmy Hood, Tom Harris, The Men and Women of the Bible Sunday School Class at East End Baptist Church, Stephanie Whitmire, Sarah Turner, and Baptist Hospice Nurses. A special thank you to Stephanie Whitmire, his home health nurse of several years, who's love shined through with every visit.
