Robert Eugene Sergent Robert "Bob" Sergent, age 70, died November 7, 2015 at his home in Columbus, MS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 5 to 6:30 PM at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home located at 903 College St., Columbus, MS 39701, (662) 328-2354. A memorial service will immediately follow from 6:30 to 7 PM. Mr. Sergent was born February 27, 1945 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to the late Arthur Sergent and Lillian Sergent. Bob graduated from Stevens Technical Institute with his Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. He joined the Air Force in 1967 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of honorable service. Decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and Meritorious Service Medal. Pop as he was known by his grandchildren was a caring, thoughtful, joy filled man whose big smile and great laugh brightened the lives of those around him. He enjoyed the simple things in life: family, fishing, football, bird watching and long trips to the beach. Generous and kind, Bob never met a stranger and was truly a testament to God's word. Survivors include his daughter Cathy Seals (Scott) of Caledonia, MS; sons Matt Sergent (Karen) of Columbus, MS and John Sergent (Mary) of Nashville, TN. Pop's grandchildren, Matthew and Caitlyn Seals of Caledonia, MS; Madison, Graham and August Sergent of Columbus, MS; Anna, Sarah Kate and Lily Sergent of Nashville, TN. Brothers Gene Sergent (Kathy), Mike Sergent (Eileen) and Ed Sergent (Trish) and many nieces and nephews. Bob will be missed by everyone that knew him. He had a tremendous impact on so many people during his time here on earth. Be kind yet strong, live with passion, smile, laugh till it hurts, and most importantly love each other.
