Sarah Quinnelly Sarah Frances Thielbar Quinnelly, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday August 3, 2015. Born December 27, 1932 in Liberty, MS she was the daughter of Sarah Jane Powers Thielbar and Francis Henry Thielbar. She grew up in Columbus, MS. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in psychology. At age 13, she met Charles Quinnelly and fell in love with him because he was the only person who read more books than she. Sally had a lifelong love of train travel, gardening, and the studies of metaphysics, astronomy, linguistics, and psychology. The greatest joy that she and Charles shared was bringing together diverse groups of friends to share in lively conversation and wonderful food. You never knew who would be at the Quinnelly dinner table! Sally's professional career was in education both as a teacher and as an administrator. She was co-founder and director of the Head Start Center in Starkville, MS. She was both secretary and a student in the Psychology Department at Mississippi State University. After the family moved to Spartanburg, Sally continued to work in education and administration. For over 30 years, she was very active in The Hampton Heights Neighborhood Association. As one of the founders of the association her most significant accomplishment was initiating the effort for the neighborhood's National Historical registration. Mrs. Quinnelly died at home surrounded by books, music and her beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Marion. She is survived by her daughter Ray Allison Quinnelly (Robert Thomas) of Atlanta, GA, sons Charles Thielbar Quinnelly (Saeng-In) of Ukiah, CA, Edward Hilpert Quinnelly (Laura) of Charleston, WV and Brooks Heath Quinnelly of Dallas, TX, eleven grandchildren and brother-in-law, Bill Quinnelly. Also surviving her are many dear cousins, and a host of friends from all walks of life. A funeral was held earlier in Spartanburg, SC. Graveside memorial services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday November 21st at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
