William J. "Slim" Sims, age 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away December 7, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, MS. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bubba Dees and Rev. Byron Davis officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2015 , from 5:00 -7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Sims was born August 8, 1924, in Walker County, AL, to the late Alvin and Ollie Sims. He retired from Dairy Fresh of Columbus after working there for 44 years. Mr. Sims enjoyed spending time and laughing with family, tinkering in his shop, and was known as the "Candy Man". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myra Jean McGee Sims, and daughter, Barbara Jean Sims. Survivors include his sons, Eddie Sims and his wife Carolyn of Columbus, MS, and Jerry Sims of West Point, MS, daughter, Jo Anne Burrage and her husband Greg of Caledonia, MS, sisters, Ramona Taggart and her husband John of Vernon, AL, and Deloris Todd of the MS Gulf Coast, grandchildren, Shelley Tuggle and her husband Jonathan, April Butler, Teri Larmour and her husband Chase, Keri Fortner and her husband Bryan, and Karisa Sims, and 7 great grandchildren.
