SARA TOWNSEND
Sara Ross Townsend, age 90 died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Windsor Place Nursing & Rehab Center in Columbus. Services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Breck Ladd and Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating, burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Mrs. Townsend was born on Wednesday, September 02, 1925 in Zula, Mississippi to the late Stephen and Mildred Walker Ross. She moved to Columbus in 1962 with her late husband Pacal Edward “Ed” Townsend. Together they established the Sunflower Grocery Store in East Columbus, where she worked for many years, then was the store bookkeeper until her retirement in 2003. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, since 1962 where she was active in Women’s Missionary Union, and taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sarah Fae Townsend. Survivors include: Daughter: Millie Sebek (Ken), Guntersville, AL Sons: Lewis Townsend (Diane), Columbus, MS Steve Townsend (Joy), Columbus, MS Sister: Mary Lee Morton (Kenneth), Oxford, MS Grandchildren: Daniel Edward Townsend (Mandy) Clinton Edward Townsend (Lauren) Wilson Terrell Townsend (Leslie) Timothy Ross Sebek (Sarah), Dusty Manzolillo (Brandy) Great Grand Children: Dunkin Townsend Sarah Ellyn Townsend Noble Grace Townsend Riley Townsend Lily Kate Townsend Stephen-Dale Schmidt David-Elliot Sebek Faith Manzolillo Abby Townsend Simon Townsend . The Pallbearers will be: Rex Gillis, Robert Gillis, Clint Townsend, Danny Townsend, Timothy Sebek, and Gary Windham
