Janice Egger Medore

Janice Egger Medore , 76, was peacefully taken by the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle.

Visitation will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church , Friday, January 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. The service will follow at 3 p.m., with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating.

Mrs. Medore was born December 24, 1939, in Columbus , to the late Dayton and Elsie Ballard Egger. She was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School , Class of 1957, and Miss. State College for Women (MUW), Class of 1961. She earned her Master’s degree from Florida State University . Her teaching career included the Meridian Public Schools and the Dept. of Defense schools in Germany and Quantico , Virginia . She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus , Mississippi , and the Koinonia Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Medore was an avid reader, continually learning and visiting places she could no longer manage in her later life, due to limited mobility. She was a loving mom, devoted wife and passionate in her love of God’s nature, including birds, trees and flowers. She was the ultimate friend – gentle, soft-spoken, generous and sweet spirited. She devoted her life to her family, and they to her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Medore was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Egger, and nephew, Scott Egger.

Survivors include her deeply devoted husband of 45 years, Samuel Medore, Jr., son Andrew Medore of Oxford , and many loving friends and care providers.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Medore, Kyle Kite, Glenn Lautzenhiser, Jack Marshall, Jim Novak, Wesley Platt, Bob Taylor and Jason Vallas.

Memorial donations may be made to the Because He Lives Building Fund for First Baptist Church in Columbus , Mississippi or to the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, located at 314 7 th St. N. , Columbus , MS 39701 .
