David Douglas Stover, Ii

David Douglas Stover, II, age 68, formerly of Columbus , died February 6, 2016 at Lake Park of Madison, Madison, FL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Todd Matocha officiating, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at Main Street Presbyterian Church.

The only son of the late Samuel Windle “Buddy” Stover, who retired from the Columbus Police Department, and Clara A. Swoope Stover, who was an English and French teacher at Lee High School , David was born July 26, 1947 in Starkville , MS .  He was named for his grandfather who started Stover Apiaries in Mayhew, MS. He was an Honor Graduate of S.D. Lee Senior High School, Class of 1965 , and he attended Millsaps College. Before moving to Florida some years ago, Mr. Stover was very active with the Friends of the Library, serving in many roles. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church, but had attended Main Street Presbyterian Church in later years. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his cousins Julia McKee McDill, Elizabeth Beall Price, Paul Beall and Marian Stover McDill.

He is survived by cousins Mike Ellis (Martha) of Columbus, Beth Ellis Freshour of Fort Payne, AL, William McKee of Reform, AL, Elizabeth Beall Stanton of Houston, TX, Tom Beall of Ethelsville, AL,  Doug Yelverton (Jeanne) of Columbus, Bess Yelverton Swedenburg(Billy) of Mayhew and Elizabeth Stover Ostrom of Irmo, SC and many other Swoope Cousins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Swedenburg, Doug Yelverton, Mike Ellis, Warren “Oop” Swoope, Frank Swoope, Charles Swoope and Floyd McIntyre.
