Wilma Shaeffer Pennington

April 30, 1923 — March 18, 2016

Mrs. Wilma Shaeffer Evans Pennington, age 92, of Columbus, MS, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at Forest Manor Nursing Home in Northport, AL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home.  Services will be Monday, March 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment  will immediately  follow at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus.

Mrs. Pennington was born April 30, 1923 in Yazoo City, MS. She was a graduate of MS State College for Women  and  a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She had lived in Columbus for 71 years before moving to Northport, Al, to be closer to her children. She and her husband owned and operated Main Street Hardware for 41 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Louie Atwell Pennington and her mother Mary Shaeffer Evans.


Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law  Artie and Mahala Pennington, Tuscaloosa, AL, her  daughter  Wilma Carol Walsh, Slidell, LA,  her daughter and son-in-law Claudia Louise and Al  Rudd, Huntsville, AL, and her daughter and son-in-law  Mary Claire and Gary Rogers, Reform , AL, and  her sister Sammie St. John, Columbus, MS. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren Artie Pennington, II, Amy McCullough, Atwell Rogers, Austin Rogers, Angela Rogers, Kevin Walsh, Keith Walsh, Scott Walsh, Chris Rudd, Aaron Rudd, Sarah Gray,  Dell Rudd, Leanna Anderson and thirteen great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Artie Pennington, II, Scott Walsh, Kevin Walsh, Keith Walsh, Chris Rudd, Aaron Rudd, Atwell Rogers, Austin Rogers, Ben McCullough and Jim Gray. Honorary pallbearers will be George Shalles, Tommy Southerland, Larry Rainey, Mike Perkerson, Wesley Platt, Mac McCarty, Willis Pope, Jim Patterson, Steve Hall, Dave Taylor, Jim Novak, John Sumrall, Mack Fuqua, Jack Marshall, Ladies Sunday School Class, Women on Missions Class,  Historical Records Class and the membership of First Baptist.
