Martha Ellis Mckellar

October 29, 1941 — March 23, 2016

Martha Ellis "Marcie" McKellar, 74, died in her home March 23, 2016 following a lengthy illness. Marcie was born in Columbus MS on October 29, 1941 to the late Carl and Mary Alice McKellar. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. A graduate of S.D. Lee High, she also attended MSCW. Marcie was a talented fashion merchandizer who assisted her father in his men's clothing store, "The Toggery Shop," for many years before going on to manage several women's clothing stores in downtown Columbus and at Leigh Mall. She was instrumental in bringing the first plus-sized ladies clothing store, "Lots to Love," to Columbus, which she successfully ran for several years.

A loving mother and sister, she is survived by her son Steve Swain of Portland OR and his three children Jeremy, Jethro and Anna Belle Swain ; her daughter Sharon Swain of Columbus MS;  her two brothers and sisters-in-law Carl and Pam  McKellar of Hendersonville TN and Frank and Sloan McKellar of Madison MS and five nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her brother Larry McKellar of Tarpon Springs, FL.

She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and generosity to the numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, friends and family she has “mothered” over the years. Her family wishes to give a very special thanks to all of the people at Baptist Home Hospice for their outstanding care and support. A private family service was held in Columbus, and in lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice is requested.
