Carl Melbourn "Buck" Hildreth, age 90, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 12, 2016, at his residence. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 14, 2016, at
11:00 AM
at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating and Rev. James Black assisting. The interment will immediately follow at Beersheba Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2016, from
5:00 - 8:00 PM
at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.
Mr. Hildreth was born October 26, 1925 in New Hope to the late Charles Melbourn and Mary Laurdice Pridmore Hildreth. He was a graduate of New Hope High School and attended East Mississippi Junior College and Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Phillipines and Japan, and also was a veteran of Korea. Mr. Hildreth was a long time funeral director at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home where he was loved and respected dearly. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Columbus Masonic Lodge #5, Hamasa Temple of Meridian, MS, and Columbus Shrine Club where he was former president and served as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Neola McMinn Hildreth, son, Jimmy Hildreth and his wife Dona of Columbus, MS, daughter, Ann Schoggen and her husband David of Clinton, MS, brother, Alton Hildreth of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Will Schoggen, Phil Schoggen, Carley Schoggen Marett, Lauren Barksdale, and Wesley Hildreth, and great grandchildren, Colton Barksdale, Emerson Barksdale, Murphy Schoggen, Macy Kate Schoggen, and Wyatt Hildreth.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Hildreth, Kenneth Barksdale, Will Schoggen, Phil Schoggen, Allen Marett, and Bobby Barksdale. Honorary pallbeaers will be Bobby Gale, Howard Robertson, Lee Gallop, Charles Sobley, George Sobley, Trenton Sheffield, Charles Clarkson, Birney Imes, Billy West, Don Harris, and members of the Glenn Lautzenhiser
