BOBBY McPHERSON

Robert Alexander “Bobby” McPherson Jr. age 87 died Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital , Columbus . Services will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church , Columbus with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating, burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery . Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McPherson was born on Thursday, December 06, 1928 in Lowndes County , MS to the late Robert Alexander and Sarah Lloyd McPherson, Sr. He was a member of First Baptist Church , where he sang in the choir for many years. He was a faithful follower of Christ, and read his Bible daily, setting an example for his children.

From the time he was a young boy, he was very involved with Boy Scouts, having received the awards of Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, and Silver Beaver. He also served as Scout Master of Troop 2, and was a member of the Pushmataha Area Council Executive Board.

An avid golfer from the age of ten, he won several area tournaments, including the Columbus Country Club Championship. During these years he also made two holes-in-one.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a former member of the Columbus Rotary Club. He, along with his brother Malcolm McPherson owned and operated Mississippi Wholesale Hardware, which was started by their father.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Malcolm McPherson and John Lloyd McPherson.
