at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker and Rev. Walter Lowery officiating. The interment will immediatly follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from
1:15 PM
until the time of the service. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Welch was born September 29, 1929, in Amory, MS, to the late Arch Albert and Clara Gideon Hardin. She graduated from Franklin Academy, S. D. Lee High School, and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Mississippi State College for Women. She majored in Home Economics at MSCW and was a Beauty at the "W". Mrs. Welch taught in the Home Economics Department at MSCW for several years. Betty Ruth was the first queen of the Columbus Pilgrimage and was a life member of the Columbus Junior Auxiliary. Mrs. Welch was a member of the First Baptist Church and in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Clayton Welch.
Survivors include her son, George Clayton Welch, Jr. and his wife Lindley of Tulsa, OK, daughter, Claire Welch Stanley and her husband Mike of Corinth, MS, sister, Florence Hardin Crowder Puls of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Charles Hoster Welch, Michael K. Stanley, Jr. and his wife Katherine, Ruth Hardin Kerr and her husband Chris, William Francis Stanley and Albert Welch Stanley, and great grandchildren, Imogene Katherine Stanley and Claire Hardin Kerr. She was cared for during the last years of her life by Gloria Lowery, Mamie Lowery, Celia Bankhead, and Tracy Price.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
