James was born on Tuesday, March 26, 1940 in Columbus , MS to the late Almus G. and Louvie Maude Boyd Hall. He was a member of East End Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran. James grew up with 3 older sisters and 1 older brother along the banks of the Luxapalila Creek with other neighborhood children living the life of Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn, (although on a smaller scale), boating, swimming, and fishing during the long hot summers.

James and his brother earned money by mowing grass all along Waterworks Road and working part-time after school at Jolly’s Store and Junkyard. After high school, and before deciding on a career path, Uncle Sam stepped in and decided James would be spending the next 2 years in Germany with the U.S. Army.

After his military service, James returned to Columbus to start planning the rest of his life. Soon after he met the love of his life, Linda Cole and they were married in 1967. With new responsibility James began searching for employment that would offer lifetime security and stability for his family. He found such employment with 4-County Electric Association in Columbus where he was employed until his retirement. James loved the outdoors and spent many hours doing the things he loved, especially woodworking. In recent years James and his brother often reminisced about all the funny experiences and predicaments that they got into during their younger years. James suffered a stroke in 2008 that left him almost totally incapacitated; as a result he resided at Windsor Nursing & Rehab until his passing. James was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lulu B. Turner, and Gladys I. Reeves.
