Clay Shepherd

Maurice Clay Shepherd age 90, died Saturday, November 05, 2016 at his residence in Steens. Services will be held Wednesday November 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at New Salem Baptist Church , with Bro. David Woods and Bro. Mel Howton officiating.  Burial with U.S. Navy Honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery . Visitation will be held Tuesday November 8, 2016 from 6 until 8 at New Salem Baptist Church .

Mr. Shepherd was born on Saturday, June 19, 1926 in Fayette , AL to the late William Monroe and Jessie Mae Belk Shepherd. He was a lifetime member of New Salem Baptist Church . He was a former employee of McCoy Manufacturing in Caledonia, and a retired painter with Conn Construction in Columbus . Mr. Shepherd was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during WWII as a Petty Officer Second Class. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching the deer in his backyard, and visiting with family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, of 65 years, Floyie Lee Tribble Shepherd, his brothers, Arvil, Charlie, Hershel, Gaylord, Vertis, and Ray Shepherd, sisters, Verdell Lollar, Bernice Guy, and Irene Pounders, and his great granddaughter, Aviendha Violet Hannah.

Survivors include his daughter Gloria Brown (James), Steens, MS and his sons Lester Shepherd (Cheryl), Caledonia , MS, Chester Shepherd (Emily), Vernon , AL, his  grandchildren Anthony Brown (Andrea), Morgan Egger (Matt), Austin Shepherd (Jessie), Sydney Hannah (Sean), Chad Shepherd and Tanya Woods. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Trenton and Zachary Brown, Jaiden and Layla Egger, Thane and Griffin Shepherd, Alexander, Edison, and Irene Hannah, Peyton and Haley Woods, and Jacie Stewart, Special caregiver, Jackie Ali and a host of nieces and nephews

Serving as Pallbearers will be Anthony Brown, Austin Shepherd, Chad Shepherd, Danny Shepherd, Dennis Lollar, Kenneth Pounders, Jeff Shepherd, Matt Egger, and Donnie Shepherd.
