Octavie Wilson van Amerongen, age 84, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease on Sunday, November 27 at Trinity Personal Care surrounded by her family. Graveside services were held December 1, 2016 at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Nashville , Tennessee .
Octavie was born on Christmas Day 1931 to Octavie Wallace Wilson and Austin Willis Wilson in Nashville . She followed her mother and grandmother as a graduate of Newcomb College [ Tulane University ] in New Orleans . She obtained her Masters degree in History from Northwestern University after she married Edward van Amerongen and moved to Chicago . She joined the Borg Warner Corporation and over a 19 year career rose to be one of their first female directors. Later, she and a Borg Warner partner founded a business where they wrote and produced mathematical teaching methods for schools over the United States . After moving to Columbus in 1989 she became a dedicated volunteer at the Good Samaritan Clinic, a member of the Les Amies Study Club and Friends of the Library. She later moved to Trinity Personal Care where she experienced the love and friendship of many devoted caregivers.
Octavie is survived by her sons Derek [Susan] of Cincinnati , Ben [Cindy] of Northbrook , Illinois ; grandchildren Taylor, Corrie,Greg [Abby], Casey and Gracie; and sister Ellender Wilson McClure of Columbus ..
