Robert Harris Hickman

Robert H. Hickman, age 90, died Friday, December 9, 2016 at Windsor Place Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Services, with Don Cole and Shawn Dickey officiating, will be Monday, December  12, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow in Lone Oak Church of Christ Cemetery, Steens, MS.

The son of the late Roderick A. and Lillian Harris Hickman, Mr. Hickman was born April 19, 1926 in Homestead, FL.  He was a graduate of Mississippi State College, now M.S.U., receiving a B.S. degree in Horticulture. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and played the trumpet in the Navy band. He later enlisted in the MS Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of MSG. He also retired  from the Unites States Postal Service as a mail carrier.  He was a member of 7th Street Church of Christ, where he had served as an Elder for thirty years.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Roderick Hickman , Jr. and his sister Elizabeth Sprott.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Dorothy Vaughan Hickman, his daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Michael Murphy of Caledonia and Phyllis and Les Chaffin of Columbus, seven grandchildren Sara Gallman (Tony), Ben Murphy, Andrew Murphy, Anne Murphy, Katy Aldred (Mark), Emily Wade ( Marshall ) and Matthew Chaffin ( Morgan)  He is also survived by five great-grandchildren J.W. Gallman, Katie Gallman, Michael Gallman, Hunter Murphy and Sydney Murphy.

Pallbearers  will be Ben Murphy, Andrew Murphy, Tony Gallman, Matthew Chaffin, Marshall Wade and Mark Aldred. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former Elders of 7th Street Church Of Christ.
