Robert Adams Ivy, Iii

December 30, 1974 — December 11, 2016

Robert Adams "Adam" Ivy, III, a son of the Southland who loved its trees and waters, died December 11, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. He was 41 years old.

Services will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Very Rev. Anne Harris and Rev. Sandra De Priest officiating. Visitation will start at noon in the Earline Robertson in the parish hall. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery with Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Adam was the son of Robert Adams Ivy, Jr. and Holly Hall Ivy of Washington, D.C. and Columbus. His grandparents were the late Robert Adams Ivy and Frances Ledyard Ivy of Columbus and the late Dr. Stanley Cheney Hall and Virginia Wilkinson Hall of Brooklyn, NY.

He was born in New Orleans, LA on December 30, 1974 and moved with his parents to Columbus in 1980. He attended the Columbus City Schools, Heritage Academy and Mississippi State University.  An independent contractor, he specialized in the installation and testing of broadband internet services across the United States.

In 2001 he married Sara Hoffman Scroggins. They are the parents of one son, Henry Moss Ivy of Athens, GA.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Virginia Edmunds Ivy of Mountain View, AR and his brother Benjamin Ledyard Ivy of McLean, VA.

He followed the family tradition of appreciating and exploring the out-of-doors through hunting, fishing and hiking throughout the South. His friends knew him as a sympathetic, gentle man.

Adam was a painter – talented in oils and acrylics – and a guitarist, beginning with a band he formed with Columbus friends as a teenager. In both fields, he often focused on Mississippi scenes and themes. His skill in woodworking and other handicrafts produced many items of value for his son and his family.

Pallbearers will be I.V. Gunter, Ben Ivy, John Jernigan, Marsh Nabors, Jamie Snapp and Bryant Worley.

Memorials may be made to the The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203 or online at nature.org.
