Joanne Potter Dove, age 88, of Caledonia, MS, passed away December 23, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Kolola Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Don Harding officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Kolola Springs Baptist Church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dove was born December 19, 1928, in Warren, OH, to the late Casey and Bonnie Mattox Potter. She was a homemaker for over 70 years and was quick to tell anyone that she could pinch a penny until Abe Lincoln screamed. Mrs. Dove was a beloved baby sitter for many years and helped to raise several dozen Caledonia boys and girls. She was a member of Kolola Springs Baptist Church and dearly loved the fellowship of the members. Mrs. Dove also loved gardening and reading a good mystery novel. Her favorite color was purple and giving her anything purple would light up her face. She tried to live by the Serenity Prayer and always said it was mind over matter, if you don’t mind, it don’t matter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dove was preceded in death by her husband, Will D. Dove, daughter, Pamela Jo Dove Moss, son, Riggie G. Dove, daughter-in-law, Ann Hargrove Dove, son-in-law, Al Herrera, sisters, Ellen J. Waters of Lexington, KY, and Patricia Ione Potter of Tulsa, OK, and granddaughter, Sherry Berneice Finley Moss.
Survivors include her daughter, Scarlet Herrera Dove of Columbus, MS, son, Jeffrey Clay Dove of Dallas, TX, grandchildren, Michelle Herrera Lawton, Melissa Herrera, Sam Moss (Brandy), Ron Moss (Lucretia), Gena Dehner (Chad), and Allen Dove (Jessie), and many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sam Moss, Ron Moss, Al Lawton, Jordan Payne, Chad Deyner, and Terry Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Culpepper, Pat Wiggins, David Dove, Ray Beasley, Spurgeon Moss, Kenneth Pounders, Jean Harding, and Linda King.
