Edith Repult Harris Reeves, 85, passed away December 25, 2016 at her home in Columbus, MS following a seven year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and acute myeloid leukemia.
Visitation will be at 10:00am Wednesday, December 28th at First United Methodist Church in Columbus with services to follow at 11:00am with Rev. Jearl Hunley and Rev. Tony Proctor, officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at Plantersville Cemetery, Plantersville, MS.
Edith was born on November 13, 1931 in Tupelo to Carl Foster Repult and Mable Ellen Harrison Repult. She graduated from Tupelo High School and was an honorary member of the Mississippi State University class of 1953. Edith accepted Christ as her savior at the age of 10 and served her Lord for the remainder of her life. Edith married George E. Harris, Jr. of Plantersville in 1950 and lived in numerous locations in both North America and Europe during his 28 year US Air Force career. During this time of her life, Edith and George raised three children, moved 11 times, and were church leaders wherever they lived. Edith was active in Order of the Eastern Star and worked as a Red Cross volunteer. Edith and George enjoyed 35 years together until his passing in 1985. In 1988, Edith married James M. Reeves of Columbus. They were active members of First United Methodist Church where Edith served on the Administrative Council, chaired the parsonage committee, and served as a trustee for many years. Edith and James participated in mission trips to Mexico, and worked together to restore Mt. Pleasant United Methodist in rural Lowndes County. The church was subsequently put on the National Historic Register in July 2007. Edith served on the board of the Golden Triangle Chapter of Military Officers Associations of America (MOAA) for 7 years and was President of MOAA for 1 year.
Edith is survived by her husband of 28 years, James; daughter Glenda G. Harris Smith (Ron) of Brandon and grandson Mark H. Smith of Louisville, KY; son Paul A. Harris of Gulfport and granddaughter Madison Harris of Napoleon, OH; and son Lee A. Harris (Mary Ann) of Pearland, TX and grandson Parker A. Harris (Kayla) of Oklahoma City, OK. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Shirley Repult West of Lexington, KY and brother, James C. “Jim” Repult (Sue) of Tupelo, MS.
Pallbearers will be Bill West, Strat Karatassos, Claude Simpson, Jim Noland, Tommy Johnson, Richard Johnson and Danny Browning.
In lieu of flowers, request that memorials be made to the Loaves and Fishes program through First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 32, Columbus, MS 39703.
