Richard M. Christopher, Jr.

October 15, 1932 — March 4, 2017

Richard M. “Dick” Christopher, Jr. age 84, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at his home in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. His service will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Shawn Parker, officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery.

The son of the late Richard M. and Dorothy Howard Christopher, Mr. Dick was born October 15, 1932 in Columbus, MS.  A graduate of Stephen D. Lee Senior High School in Columbus, he also attended Mississippi State College. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church and a long-time member of Dr. Perrin Smith‘s Sunday School class, serving as secretary for many years.  He retired as a mail carrier from the US Postal Service, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the US Army during the Berlin Crisis as a Communications linesman.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Anne Morgan Christopher, his son and daughter –in-law Richard Christopher, III and Debbie and his grandson Richard M. Christopher, IV, all of Columbus. He is also survived by his sister Ann Marie Christopher of Columbia, SC, his brother-in-law and his wife Frank and Marilyn Morgan of Louisville, MS and special nieces Jennifer Morgan of Hattiesburg, and Susan Tanner (Raymond) of Madison and great niece Caroline Tanner.

Pallbearers will be Billy Phillips, Bud Phillips, Bob Phillips, Blake Hill, Ron Smith, Dr. Perrin Smith and Steve Swedenburg.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Douglass, Houston Hardy, Jimmy Wilder, Johnny Mac McCrary, Charles Shook, Dr. Perrin Smith, Bruce Sansing,  Dr. Henry Tom Gunter and Dr. Perrin Smith's  Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O Box 829, Columbus, MS 39703 or the MS Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1040 River Oaks Dr., Flowood, MS 39232.
