John Weldon Haggard, 75, of Ethelsville, AL went to be with the Lord, from the comfort of his home, on the morning of Wednesday, March 22, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born February 18,1942 in Blythe, CA to Joe Weldon and Verna May (West) Haggard. He graduated from Mar Vista High School, Imperial Beach, CA in 1960. John proudly served his Country by enlisting in the Air Force as an electronics technician from 1962-1966. He married Arlene Marlor Jones December 28, 1968 in CA. They left California and moved to Columbus, MS in 1970 and then Ethelsville, AL in 1971. Here he helped raise two daughters, Wendy and Debra to be strong, independent and never give up. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.
Over the course of his life, John was employed in MS at Bosch, Universal Industries, Life of Georgia and as a rural letter carrier for the USPS, from which he retired. John was a devoted grandfather to his two grandchildren Katelyn and Aidan, taking them fishing and exploring in the woods. He loved the outdoors, be it watching the deer or feeding his fish in his pond or having a big fish fry for all his family to enjoy. He loved God, his family and friends, his Country, Alabama football, and Nascar. He will be greatly missed by all who have had the pleasure of spending time with him.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Arlene Haggard of Ethelsville, AL, his daughters Wendy Hysaw (Mark) of Columbus, MS and Debra Boyer (Adam Durbiano) or Arizona City, AZ; his sisters Martha Stone (Robert L.) of Chula Vista, CA; Judy Blakley (Tom) of Hemit, CA; and Cathy Smith (Tom-deceased) of St. Joseph, UT and his grandchildren Katelyn Hunt and Aidan Hysaw.
To honor John’s wishes, his earthly body was donated for the advancement of science. His family will have a Celebration of Life on
