Mr. Carl Preston McDaniel, age 84, died Friday, March 31, 2017 at his home in Columbus. Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory will be in charge of his services. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM Sunday at the First Church of the Nazarene. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Ron Delgado, officiating. Interment with Masonic rites and Military honors will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The son of the late Colbert and Mary Kate Klutts McDaniel, Mr. McDaniel was born February 9, 1933 in Millport, AL. He enlisted in the National Guard and was called to active duty in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #5 and VFW Post 4272. He was a truck driver for over 45 years, driving for several different companies. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joan Powell McDaniel and his daughter Mitzi McDaniel Mc Gill.
He is survived by his son and daughter –in-law Kenneth Wayne and Phyllis McDaniel, his daughter Penny Denise Gilley and his son-in-law Mike McGill, all of Columbus, his brother and sister-in-law Frank and Patsy McDaniel of Steens, and his sister Emma Jean Black of Millport, AL. He is also survived by his grandsons Nicholas Watkins, Elliot Knight, Jake McGill, and Mike McDaniel, his granddaughters Anna Kathryn McGill and Erin Mailcoat and a great-grandchild Logan Watkins.
